The 17-year-old Modern Family actress underwent a breast reduction surgery, a decision she tells Glamour, after years of growing up in the spotlight with back pain and discomfort.
“It’s hard when you’re a young girl and you already have a lot of taunts and then you pile on even more, and it’s kind of … it just gets too much,” Winter said. “We live in a time where everything you do is ridiculed. Internet bullies are terrible. I could post a photo that makes me feel good and 500 people will comment on how fat I am and how gross I am [red carpets], I just said to myself, “You have to do your best to look confident and stand tall, and make yourself look your best in these photos,” because everyone is going to see them. I definitely seemed confident; I’m an actress, let’s do that. But inside I didn’t feel so happy.”
Now, Winter says she’s exactly how she “should be.”
