The theme of the event, held on May 6, 2019 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, which described Camp as “a love of the unnatural: to artistry” and exaggeration”.
Zac Posen created Padukone’s one-of-a-kind outfit, collaborating with designers to create more than 400 3D-printed embroideries for the dress.
The voluminous creation featured layers of tulle and a long train that trailed behind the actress as she strutted down the matching pink carpet. Padukone complemented her look with exquisite earrings and a statement cuff by Lorraine Schwartz, as well as a high ponytail that enhanced the Barbie vibe.

Natasha Poonawalla is the Executive Director of the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, and a renowned philanthropist and socialite. Poonawalla was the only Indian woman attending this year’s gala and she dazzled in a gold ensemble that was a mix of Indian and western couture.
Poonawalla wore a bespoke gold tulle saree by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, one of India’s leading fashion designers, and a hand-forged gold metallic bustier by Schiaparelli, an Italian maison known for its avant-garde designs.
The saree was hand embroidered with silk silk, beveled beads, semi-precious stones, crystal and sequin embellishments and appliquéd printed velvet. The bustier was inspired by the corsetry and bustle of the Golden Age, a period of rapid economic growth and social change in America from 1870 to 1900. The outfit was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania.

Sudha Reddy is a Hyderabad-based philanthropist and socialite known for her community service and dedication to various causes. She is the wife of billionaire businessman Megha Krishna Reddy.
Among the celebrities, artists, designers and influencers attending the Gala in 2021, Sudha Reddy stood out as the only Indian representative.
Sudha Reddy made her appearance at the Met Gala in a stunning gold gown designed by Indian duo Falguni Shane Peacock. Inspired by the colors of the American flag, the dress featured a molded bodice and a dramatic four meter train embellished with Swarovski crystals, sequins and horn beads. The dress required more than 250 hours of handwork to create and reflect Sudha’s eclectic personality.
Sudha complemented her look with diamond earcuffs by Farah Ali Khan, sequined gold stilettos by Chanel and a Ganesha clutch by Judith Leiber. The clutch was a tribute to their Indian heritage and culture, as well as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
