The comedian later explained what was going through his mind at that moment: “Mom and dad are sitting there… And Ellen is just like, ‘Hey, Ha-SAN!’ I was looking at the audience… and my mother, who gave me that name, just said, ‘Eugh.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude, what am I doing?’”
“And so I was like, ‘Okay, Ellen, let’s just do this now,'” he continued. “Because we can pronounce Timothée Chalamet, so let’s do that now.”
Still, after the interview, Hasan’s father rebuked him for wasting time on air correcting Ellen. Although Hasan understood where his father came from, he contradicted him, noting that while his parents’ generation was struggling to survive, his generation is here to live and thrive.
