It’s difficult being a celebrity. Fame is fleeting by nature. You become known for being a thing and once that career path dries up you must try to maintain the lifestyle you have become accustomed to. How do you stay relevant? You go on reality TV.
Celebrity reality shows are a special breed. There’s the actual competition, which appeals to some viewers, and then there’s the appeal of seeing a smorgasbord of celebrities you never thought you’d see on screen together. It’s actually a pretty brilliant hook, especially when the show challenges celebs to push themselves out of their comfort zones.

9 “Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test” (2023-)
The latest show that sends celebrities through hell for our entertainment, special forces on Fox takes athletes, musicians, actors and reality stars and puts them through legitimate military special forces training. If they complete the process, will they win a big cash prize? No. All they get is confirmation that they know what they’re capable of. Through bravery and determination, these celebrities are proving to be pretty badass for a group of B-listers.
Several members of the cast are forced to leave the show due to injuries sustained while completing the challenges. The show emphasizes that this is the same course that real Special Forces recruits go through, and they don’t hold back just because the recruits aren’t military professionals. While most celebrity reality shows seem demeaning, Special Forces stands out by showing that anyone can be capable of greatness.
8th “The Surreal Life” (2003-)

Rather than focusing on a house full of average people, The Surreal Life’s housemates are an odd assortment of some of the most popular and bizarre celebrities. Celebrities are often pigeonholed and fail to prove they are more than audiences think they are. That’s why it feels weird when a comedy actor does a drama. In a way, The Surreal Life offers the cast a chance to break out of that box and show the world who they really are. A big appeal of the show is the odd pairings of housemates, such as: Tammy Faye Messner And Ron Jeremybut what makes it special is how the show uses an often trashy format to find something real in the surreal.
7 ‘RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race’ (2020-)
RuPaul’s Drag Race shed a much-needed spotlight on the LGBTQIA+ community and the art of drag. The show has swept the drag mainstream, even if some politicians would like to stay underground. With drag racing growing in popularity, it only makes sense that some famous faces would want to give it a try. The first season of RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race featured a new cast of celebrities each week, while season two featured a season-long combination of drag race and The Masked Singer.
Pulling is hard. Not only do you need to be fashionable, but you also need to be a big personality, able to thrive on stage as a comedian, dancer, and lip-synch artist. These celebs had to learn this the hard way, as they had to pull off top notch drag performances each week, with a little help from acclaimed drag race graduates, of course. As Drag Race continues on its quest for world domination, RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race is a very welcome addition to the family.
6 “Celebrity Circus” (2008-2008)
Working in the circus isn’t just a career choice, it’s a lifestyle. It takes years of practice and unwavering dedication. Based on the Portuguese reality format of the same name Celebrity Circus takes a group of celebrities, such as Stacey Dash And Antonio Sabato Jr.and challenges them to put together a real circus performance with minimal training.
It’s a tough show that requires the celebrities to put themselves through a real physical effort, hence the inclusion of a ruthless one Donkey actors like Little man. The show was canceled after one season on NBC, but in a world where the circus has all but disappeared and celebrities need multiple dashes to remain relevant, Celebrity Circus is ripe for a revival.
5 “Celebrity Big Brother” (2018-)
At this point, Big Brother is a global reality TV institution. Given its incredible popularity, it only makes sense for the franchise to grow with it Celebrity Big Brother, in which various celebrities face the challenge of living together under constant surveillance. Unlike the traditional Big Brother, these celebrities know about each other and even have previous relationships, making the game of manipulation and social deduction that much more complicated.
Although Celebrity Big Brother has run for over 20 seasons in the UK, the US version has only had three seasons to date. Based on the South Korean format of the same name, each season features a cast of celebrities who dress up in extravagant costumes and compete in a singing contest while hiding their identities. Evaluating their accomplishments and guessing their identities is a jury to include Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg And Nicole Scherzinger.
While yes, the costumes and the live performances must be quite uncomfortable for the contestants, overall the show seems like a pretty fun experience to be a part of. There’s no price for winning, so it’s all about having a good time. As the show enters its ninth season on Fox, The Masked Singer has established itself as a comfort show for its legion of fans.
3 ‘Splash’ (2013-2013)
Have you ever watched competitive diving and thought, “It would be better if it was the divers Louie Anderson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, And bye out of Chelsea lately?” Well, someone did, and ABC made their dream come true syringes. The show adopts the format seen in shows like Dancing with the stars and applies it to the little-known sport of competitive diving.
What makes the show interesting is how it shows the average person how hard scuba diving is. You might think you’re just jumping off and pointing down, but there’s a lot more to it than that, as Splash’s cast learned with every episode. Though it only lasted a single season, Splash is worth checking out whether you’re into scuba diving or not.
2 “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” (2008-2012)
Life isn’t easy for anyone. We often forget that when it comes to celebrities, staring at their fights like it’s just more entertainment. celebrity rehab takes that shameful habit and tries to make something meaningful out of it. Each season offers dr drew to help a group of celebrities overcome their drug and alcohol addictions.
This show requires the cast to be incredibly vulnerable. Opening up to someone about their personal life can be scary, especially when it’s being broadcast on national television. While it could easily fall into the trash TV category, Celebrity Rehab isn’t trying to make a joke of its contestants, and it’s really nice to watch.
1 “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” (2003-2009)
Although it has been running for over 20 seasons in the UK, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! hasn’t quite caught on in the US yet, with two separate attempts to adapt the show each being canceled after a single season. The format is a fish-out-of-water version survivorchallenges a cast of celebrities to survive in the wilderness with few of the modern conveniences they’re used to.
It’s a brilliant concept built entirely around making its cast uncomfortable. Similar to Survivor and Big Brother, one member of the cast is eliminated each week after a challenge tests their skills. Not only will they have to demonstrate incredible survival skills, but they’ll also have to play the board game and make their way to be the last celebrity standing at the end of their stay. We hope someone in the US gives this show another chance.
