You never know who you'll see on Main Street during Sundance. Maybe it's an A-lister wrapped in a parka incognito, or maybe even – check notes – the cast of Entourage having a snowball fight. As the movie-loving crowds and seasonal skiers descended on Park City last weekend, there was plenty to see and do in the busier-than-average Old Town and beyond.
This was particularly the case at the Chase Sapphire on Main, the bank's main lounge downtown, where there were plenty of cast parties, panels and events. And I had the opportunity to take part.
Attendees included Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis and Normani, who celebrated the premiere of their film Freaky Tales; Lucy Liu and Julia Fox celebrate the Steven Soderbergh-directed performance; friendly trio Dylan O'Brien, River Gallo and Victoria Pedretti for Ponyboi; Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg (minus furry costumes) for Sasquatch Sunset; and Chiwetel Ejiofor (present as director) and Camila Cabello for Rob Peace.
The mornings were also star-studded with a series of panel discussions for some of the festival's biggest films. Take Saoirse Ronan for her new drama The Outrun or Glen Powell and Richard Linklater for Hit Man.
Director Megan Park caught up with the rising stars of My Old Ass (yes, that's the right title) to chat about the film. “I've never felt older in my life,” Park joked about the time she spent with her young cast. “And so I rewrote the character [that Aubrey Plaza plays] Last minute, to be in your late 30s or early 40s.” “I love when a film sparks conversation,” actress Maddie Ziegler later added.
Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, André Holland and John Earl Jelks met with artist and director Titus Kaphar to talk about “Exhibiting Forgiveness.” “I think he's one of the most important voices in the art world, so I wanted to do it anyway,” Ellis-Taylor said of Kaphar and his film. “He’s just a lovely person and I just knew it was something I would enjoy.”
It wasn't just about the films either. Leon Bridges hosted a show for Sapphire Reserve cardholders on Thursday night, and violinist Enzima invited them to intimate performances on Sunday.
And as for the food, since it's nearly impossible to get a table anywhere during Sundance, a restaurant concierge from Infatuation was on-site to help with reservations. Top Chef chef Melissa King also offered curated dishes throughout the weekend. Additionally, there was an after-hours Infatuation Party with appetizers and drinks from some of the area's best restaurants.
