Gangsta’s Paradise rapper. CoolioHe, who rose to fame with the track in the mid-’90s, died last night in Los Angeles. He was 59.
The musician’s agent confirmed his death, the New York Times reported. He died around 5 p.m. at a friend’s house. The cause has not been confirmed.
Celebrities, friends and fans were quick to tweet the Grammy winner’s name, mourning the artist and celebrating his work and life.
The weird Al Yankovic shared a photo of the two rappers hugging and captioned it a simple “RIP Coolio” — which many fans took notice of due to their past conflict.
Snoop Dogg also posted a photo of the two together, captioned “Gangstas Paradise. RIP 🙏🏽🌹 🕊 ♿️🚾. @coolio”
ice cubes was of course saddened by the news. “I’ve witnessed firsthand this man’s rise to the top of the industry. Rest in peace @Coolio,” he wrote.
Tina MaloneShe, who got into a screeching match with the rapper on Big Brother, wrote that she’s glad they got the chance to reconcile after the fact.
The New Orleans Saints warmed up for “Gangsta’s Paradise” this morning.
