The circus is dying and the entertainment industry is thriving. What used to be the only major, classless form of public entertainment has been sidelined as both entertainers and activists have stressed the importance of risking human and animal lives. And frankly, technology and less labor-intensive forms of entertainment have made show business a lot easier to make and enjoy.

While the circus may fade from our imaginations as a performance ring, the connotations and baggage associated with the terminology are not, leaving you bound anytime something entertaining gets a little too off the charts with no clear protagonist and antagonist are to call it a circus.

As we watched Pakistan recover from the political circus that grew wilder in 2022, we also saw celebrities air their dirty laundry and pull their claws in truly ‘wild’ ways. The line between role and reality was so blurred that we got to see our favorite stars bluff their perfectly groomed public images to settle personal scores like performers in an amphitheater.

1. Exes fly off the handle

Actor Mikaal Zulfikar announced his divorce on Facebook in 2017 without going into the essence of the breakup. That year, however, Zulfiqar spoke in a lengthy interview with an English publication about being “scarred and scared” about tying the knot for a third time.

“I’m still scared and scared, but I’m open to the idea. However, I don’t think about it all the time. I’m very busy with work and I have my girls,” he shared with the outlet. He added that in his married life he felt the “pressure to work things out” with his wife because “the nature of this work” can lead the spouse to make unfounded assumptions.

What many didn’t expect was that his ex-wife Sara Bhatti would take the feelings personally and took to social media to present her side of the story as well. “The statements made about me in this article are absolutely not true. I was an extremely supportive wife who took on all the responsibility just so Mikaal could travel and work, which he did non-stop. I never questioned him about the women he worked with. Yes I questioned him about the things that actually have ‘truth’ in them,” she wrote on Instagram.

Although Zulfiqar made no further comments on the situation, the cat was already out of the bag and the news was making the rounds across the internet, with many viewers chiming in to share their own take on the former couple’s relationship woes. The online confrontation between the two was short-lived but definitely gave fans enough to come up with theories about the personal lives of public figures.

2. The blame game

The fiasco between singer Aima Baig and UK-based filmmaker Qes Ahmed remains the biggest gossip story of the year.

It all started when British supermodel Taloulah Mair posted screenshots of a conversation between Ahmed and Baig, claiming to be proof of the singer’s alleged cheating on her former fiancé, Shahbaz Shigri. The singer, who announced her split from Shigri a few days ago, responded to the whole situation by calling it “direct bullying and targeting.”

Tired of the constant cyberbullying, the singer took to Instagram and expressed disappointment that fans believed they were “some random people just looking for a few followers without even knowing the actual truth and real story behind it.”

Ahmed and Mair, on the other hand, continued their altercations online, with more and more intimate details being shared. In this whole debacle, Baig certainly only spoke up to publicly defend himself, but unfortunately it didn’t work. Judging by the memes that followed the Baazi singer’s controversy, it was clear that female public figures aren’t getting off as easily as men.

3. Trouble in Paradise

Lovebirds and fellow actors Sunita Marshall and Hassan Ahmed have long maintained a sane view of their relationship in the media. And to be honest, following this incident, it looks like the duo could be the most mature celebrity couple in the business.

Back in November, Marshall gave an interview to a local magazine about her life and addressed the struggles Hassan faced as an actor. However, the Beqadar star didn’t like his significant other’s comments, categorically declaring that everything that was said was “Sunita’s version of events”. He went on to say the statements were “false,” and even if they were true, only he has the right to speak out about his struggles and only he can decide when and if he should even do so.

Although Hassan’s feeling of being attacked surprised fans and almost everyone reached for their popcorn, it was Marshall who prevented the controversy from stoking any further by uploading a picture of the couple hugging. We often see celebrities with a perfect lens and forget that even they can make mistakes in moments of weakness. Veteran actress Saba Faisal is one such celebrity who aired her dirty laundry online but later deleted all the videos and urged everyone to forget it.

Though Faisal regretted putting the spotlight on her family’s troubles, the entire episode was meant to remind everyone to never use social media as a personal vent journal.

In the clip that sparked the controversy, the Rehbra actress announced her family’s split from her son Salman Faisal and his wife of four years, Neha Salman. On why she posted the video at an ungodly hour, she said: “It was a delicate time for me putting this video online. I shouldn’t have done that and I regret it.”

5. The third time is not the stimulus

The marriage of the late televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain to his third wife, Dania Shah, was the prime example of how couples could make social media fortunes by appearing together on Tiktok and related platforms. But it seems like it was that same frenzy for social media attention that eventually led to her downfall.

After the two wed in February of this year, things took a rather drastic turn when Shah announced her decision to split due to the relationship just three months later [alleged] abuse by their partner. The aftermath of this accusation was pure chaos. The two made some lewd remarks about one another and tacky accusations were leveled by both sides, but before bystanders could get a feel for the situation, Hussain was found dead at his home in Karachi on June 9 at the age of 50.

It is outrageous to mention that before Hussain’s death, a video showing the late TV presenter’s naked body went viral. After his death, many people accused Shah of posting their private videos online, and Syeda Bushra Iqbal, Hussain’s first ex-wife, later announced that she plans to file a case with the Cybercrime Unit, which is currently under investigation Submit Shah.

Last week Shah was taken into custody by the FIA ​​on the same case. Her bail was later denied. Iqbal, on the other hand, has dismissed claims by Shah’s mother that she pulled the former over “conspiracy” to arrest her. The matter remains before the court.
