When you think of the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, you think of opulence, glamor and drama – something that will stay in people’s minds forever.
Lately, many celebs have ditched ruffles, fuzz and feathers and instead gone for a more classic approach. Imagine timeless and iconic—probably an ensemble that doesn’t weigh three times as much as the celebrity.
Gigi Hadid went the archival route while still keeping it minimalist in a mocha Zac Posen model from 2014. Known as an outright minimalist, Rosie Huntington Whiteley presented two gorgeous looks that were edgy yet elegant. Both her YSL and Valentino dresses were monochromatic and lacked any surface ornamentation. Playing with the cut and adding a single standout element made the outfit look cleaner and sharper.
Jennifer Lawrence also exuded old Hollywood glamor this season, keeping her two appearances in Cannes timeless. Her stylist, Kate Young, dressed Jennifer in a Crimson Dior dress with a corset bodice and minimal detailing at the neckline. However, the star of her look was her choice of footwear. The Hunger Games actor walked the red carpet in a pair of strappy flip flops and looked supremely comfortable.
Although voluminous and roomy couture are a constant at Cannes, it’s refreshing to see celebrities opting for styles that are dainty yet still express their fashion sense. Check out the gallery above and check out the best minimalist looks of the season.
