It’s the end of an era. A Golden Globe Ambassador will not be on hand to help present the trophies at the 2023 Golden Globes ceremony. Since 1963, honors have been given to the teenage children of established actors and actresses, giving many of today’s stars their first glimpse into the spotlight.
In some families, multiple generations have served in this role. actress Tippi Hedrens daughter, Melanie Griffithwas Miss Golden Globe in 1975. The daughter of the Pacific Heights star, Dakota Johnsonwent on to do the honors as ambassador at the 2006 ceremony.
Not only was the Fifty Shades star the first daughter of a former Miss Golden Globe winner to ever be selected, but she also had two parents who were Golden Globe winners. Melanie took home the Best Actress (Comedy or Musical) award for Working Girl in 1989, while Dakota’s father, Don Johnsonwon his 1986 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series (Drama) for Miami Vice.
Some Miss Golden Globes have grown into winners. Laura Dern took on the role at the 1982 ceremony as the daughter of actors Bruce Dern and Diana Ladd. The Big Little Lies star grew into a successful actress in her own right, winning five Golden Globe awards and eight nominations over the course of her illustrious Hollywood career.
Several legendary actors Clinton Eastwood‘s children have competed as Miss Golden Globes over the years. In 2005, his daughter Kathryn, who he shares with Jacelyn Reeves, gave out trophies, while daughter Francesca, who Clint shares with his ex-girlfriend Franz FischerHe took on the same role in 2013.
A handful of male celebrity offspring have landed the coveted role. The title was officially changed from “Miss or Mr. Golden Globe” to “Golden Globe Ambassador” in 2018 to be more gender specific.
actor Freddy Prinze Jr. attended the awards ceremony in 1996, a year after the first Mr. Golden Globe, John Clark Gable, son of the late acting icon Clark Gable and his wife Kay Williams Gable, took on the role as the first man to receive the honor. In the years since Michael J Fox and Tracy PollanSam’s son, served as Mr. Golden Globe in 2013 while Pierce Brosnan and woman Keely Shaye SmithHandsome model sons Dylan and Paris took over as ambassadors in 2020.
