Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says he doesn’t want to hear any more celebrity opinions on how Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is tired of hearing celebrity opinions about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards.

During an interview with Good Morning Britain, the subject of Smith hitting Rock came up. Radcliffe said, “I’m just already so bored of hearing people’s opinions on this that I just don’t want to be a different opinion that contributes to it.”

However, Radcliffe noted that he had joked about him at awards shows and said he was never quite sure whether the joke was his or not. Because of that, he said, “They have a kind of way of just being like, ‘I’m just going to keep smiling and laughing and maybe it’ll end soon.’

At the 94th Academy Awards, Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, saying he was excited to see her in GI Jane 2. Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia and wore her hair short for the event. In response, Will Smith took the stage and slapped Rock in the face. He then returned to his seat and told the comedian to “keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth.” Later that night, Smith won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Richard Williams in King Richard, a biopic centered on the family of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams.

Following the slap, various Hollywood celebrities made appearances both for and against Smith. For example, while Janet Hubert – who played Aunt Viv in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – supported her nephew on screen, comedian Jim Carrey condemned the slap, saying it made him “sick.” In response to the event, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences launched a formal review of Smith’s conduct and fined the actor. For his part, Smith has apologized, saying the storyline “doesn’t point to the man I want to be.”

Radcliffe is an actor best known for his role as the titular wizard in the Harry Potter series. Outside of this blockbuster series, Radcliffe has had roles in Swiss Army Man (2016) and Guns Akimbo (2019). Radcliffe has also appeared on numerous TV shows including BoJack Horseman and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. His most recent role was as Abigail Fairfax on The Lost City.

Starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, The Lost City is in theaters now.
