Don’t Waste Your Money | Watch out for ‘deepfake’ ads of celebrities | Business

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Are you influenced by celebrities and their endorsements? Be careful! Some of them are “deepfaked” by scammers.

Taylor Swift was the latest victim. With tickets to her shows selling for thousands of dollars, scammers are looking for every opportunity to exploit her likeness.

Earlier this year, a social media ad showed Taylor Swift allegedly giving away thousands of Le Cruset cookware sets.

Le Cruset said they had nothing to do with the ad.

Security expert Dave Hatter of Intrust It Security said that all fraudsters need is a video of the person they are targeting and a recording of their voice, and an AI program will do the rest.

“At this point, it is very easy for any person to create incredibly realistic deepfake content,” Hatter said.

Be wary of social media ads from celebrities, no matter how real they look.

People who fell for this scheme say that the scammers charged their credit card and received nothing.

But you know there's more to come. So be skeptical so you don't waste your money.
