Freeze the Fear: Fans left in tears as emotional finale sees celebrities jump off 500 foot bridge

Freeze the Fear fans were in tears after an action-packed finale that saw celebrities jump off a whopping 500ft bridge. EXtreme athlete Wim Hof put the celebrities through their paces and taught them the benefits of controlled breathing in a series that pushed Gabby Logan, Owain Wyn Evans and Patrice Evra to the limit.

But in Tuesday’s emotional finale, the celebrities faced arguably the scariest challenge by jumping off a 500ft bridge. Relief and triumph were seen on the faces of Tamzin Outhwaite and Dianne Buswell after completing the challenge – and it even brought tears to some fans. When she yelled “I f*cking did it” after her jump, Dianne’s reaction particularly won over the show’s adoring fans.

It wasn’t just the celebs who got the plaudits – after a grueling six weeks of freezing (literally) challenges, there was plenty of love online for host Wim Hof, who put the celebs through their paces.

Six weeks of cold showers, intense breathing techniques and ice-cold challenges had all built up to the Freeze the Fear finale. At the beginning of the episode, host Holly Willoughby epicly described how “it all came together.”

And ‘epic’ was certainly the word to describe this finale. As morning broke, the group took one last cold shower and Welsh weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans said: “I wasn’t a big fan of the cold shower feel but I think it helped me” before splashing on cold water Dianne Buswell from Strictly Come Dancing.

But would the group decide to jump or not? On the way to the bridge, EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite claimed: “I’m fine with my decision, I’m not jumping. I don’t have anything to let go of, and if I do, I’ll go to therapy,” but what would the others do?

Owain looked amazed at the sight of the colossal bridge as he prepared to attempt a jump that would swing him 500 feet under the body of the bridge. Dianne was the first to rise to the challenge, and from below, Owain claimed, “That’s what she’s scared of.” Meanwhile, Iceman Wim Hof was up on the bridge as usual, telling the Strictly star that “one step between her and the future”.

A tearful Dianne said, “I can’t imagine jumping,” but that she’s come to terms with facing her fears and being able to live with not being able to jump.

Still, Wim encouraged her to “let go of the past,” and she faced her fear. As she fell, she screamed, “I made it! I fucking did it!” and the other celebrities looked on proudly. Dianne then returned to the floor and told the others that “Wim made her feel at peace with herself” and that she had “never felt happier.”

After Tamzin saw Dianne jump, she changed her mind and attempted the big jump. She greeted Wim upstairs and told him she “can’t believe she’s even considering it.” And with that – she fell, having also faced her fears. “I’m so glad I did it, it made me very emotional,” Tamzin said as she rejoined the others, going so far as to call it one of the best things she’s ever done .

Steven was next – emotionally choosing not to jump as he felt it was outside of his “comfort zone”. The other celebrities praised him for his decision, saying that he showed great strength in not doing it. Then it was Chelsee’s turn, who faced her fear and jumped off the bridge. She was praised for her strength.

And then the one we’ve all been waiting for – Owain. Welsh host Owain has come a long way since the series began, so naturally the group wondered if he would take the plunge. An emotional Owain used his breathing techniques and simply said “Let’s go” as he jumped off the bridge. His signature quiff was blowing in the wind and Owain bravely rejoined the other celebs.

Patrice was the next to jump off the bridge without hesitation. Gabby then tried and also chose to fall off the bridge. Finally it was Alfie’s turn and until he got to the bridge he wasn’t sure if he was going to jump. The singer had previously opened up about his struggles with depression and how Wim’s training had a huge impact on him. There was a lot going on at the hill as Alfie felt it was going to be a fresh start for him. “Breathe the past, breathe the future,” Wim said as Alfie prepared to fall. He described being “scared” and looking down at the drop.

5… 4… 3… 2… 1 and he did it. As he swung under the bridge, an emotional Alfie cheered.

“Human emotions are the best there is,” Wim described, and it’s safe to say the celebrities would agree with him. The past six weeks have tested them both emotionally and physically and all have reaped the benefits of cold water immersion.
