In a letter dated September 22 last year, the committee sent a list of 141 well-known personalities to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The letter urged them to examine their tax returns in a well-coordinated action against the celebrities who have taken part in the nationwide protests.
Demonstrations began across Iran following the death of 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by the controversial morality police for her “inappropriate” dress – not wearing her hijab properly. The death of Mahsa Amini in custody then sparked huge protests that lasted for months and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of protesters.
According to the `, people on the Iranian regime’s radar included sports legend Ali Daei and top actress Taraneh Alidoosti. Earlier this month, Iranian police said they would begin using “smart” technology in public places to crack down on women who defy the district’s strict dress code.
