UTAH (ABC4) – Utah film and television fans rejoice when big Hollywood stars head to Utah for their next big project.
On Thursday, the Utah Film Commission announced the approval of 13 new productions to begin filming in Utah.
The productions receive state-approved film funding Board of Governors Office of Economic Opportunities (Go Utah). Officials say the new productions will have an economic impact of about $142.5 million, with about 90% of the funds benefiting rural Utah.
Productions range from a variety of media including feature films and television shows, distributed on major platforms such as Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, FX/Hulu, Nickelodeon, Paramount+ and classic theatrical releases.

Major productions heading Utah’s path include a Kevin Coster-era western, Horizon: An American Saga, a feature film from co-writer Napoleon Dynamite, and an untitled series from Yellowstone creators Taylor Sheridan.
“Our film industry has thrived over the years,” said Virginia Pearce, director of the Utah Film Commission, an initiative of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. “We have seen a growing interest from filmmakers and stakeholders in rural communities to film in Utah. This new rural film incentive is allowing Utah to attract more film production and stay competitive.”
Officials say all approved projects are due to start production this summer. Some locations are still being determined.
With its unique natural landscape, Utah has been the setting for countless film and television classics, including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, “Thelma & Louise”, “127 Hours”, “Yellowstone”, “Westworld” and “High School Musical”. : The Musical: The Series” and many more.
