Celebrities are expressing sadness and anger, and sharing their own anecdotes, after a gunman entered a Nashville elementary school on Monday, killing six people.
Christian singer Lauren Daigle, who was scheduled to perform an album preview concert on Monday, postponed her show and instead held a prayer vigil following the attack.
“Today’s shooting is truly heartbreaking for our Nashville community and everyone involved,” Daigle wrote on Instagram. “If you need a safe place to pray, mourn and be with your community, please join us. The doors are open to everyone.”
The attacker, identified as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28, was a former student at The Covenant School in Nashville and broke into facilities by shooting at the glass of a door on Monday morning. Hale shot and killed three young students and three staff members before being confronted and killed by police.
As news of the shooting spread, many Celebrities, including those living in Nashville, spoke about the attack, which marks the 89th on-site shooting this year, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database.
Country singer and actress Jana Kramer, who lives in Nashville and raises her two young children, said on social media Monday that their children are doing well, but said she has friends whose children are in school wthis is where the shooting took place.
“My heart is absolutely breaking for the children and the families right now,” Kramer wrote in her Instagram story on Monday. “Why. Why. Why. I’ll just never understand it.”
Expressing her frustration “as a mother” on Twitter, Mickey Guyton wrote: “Shame on every single politician who agrees to do nothing as CHILDREN are murdered every day in what is meant to be their safe haven.”
Other celebrities directed their testimony to Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, who signed legislation into law in 2021 allowing anyone over the age of 21 to carry a handgun without a permit.
The shooting also follows Gov. Lee’s recent signing of a law restricting drag performances on public property, passed earlier this month.

Nashville-based singer Margo Price wrote: “May I ask @GovBillLee why you passed the Permit Less Carry in 2021? Our kids are dying and getting shot at school, but you’re more worried about drag queens than smart gun laws? You have blood on your hands.”
Niecy Nash shared a tearful personal anecdote with her Instagram and TikTok followers, in which she revealed her brother died of gun violence on his high school campus in 1993, adding that news of the Nashville shooting broke her “heart.” makes it difficult”.
“It’s 2023 and (they are) babies who will never make it home to see their parents. And those parents will forever be in a place and place where they’re like, ‘What was the last thing I said? What was the last lunch I made?’ ”
She added: “We’re getting lost. Some political groups are so focused on the wrong things that our children are dying.”
