Lilly Singh and other Scarborough walk of fame celebrities to be inducted Sept. 15

YouTube star turned Hollywood celebrity Lilly Singh will receive a star to be placed on the pavement in Scarborough town center at the induction ceremony of the Scarborough Walk of Fame on September 15th.

Originally from Scarborough, Singh began her entertainment career at her childhood home in Scarborough, where she created a YouTube channel in 2010 which, with its child-focused content, has exploded to more than 14 million subscribers by 2022.

With that success, she continued to climb the ladder, serving as a judge on the hit show Canada’s Got Talent, starring in the Dreamworks animated film The Bad Guys, and writing her second book, Be A Triangle. ”

“I take the best of myself to being born and raised in Scarborough. From naming my dog ​​’Scarbro’ to my 416 tattoo, I am beyond proud of my hometown and honored to receive this recognition,” Singh said in a Walk of Fame press release. “I can’t wait to be back at this event and thank the Scarborough Walk of Fame committee for a true career highlight.”

Singh graduated from the Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute in 2006 and received her BA in Psychology from York University in 2010.

She is among 11 honorees for 2022, which also include:

• Randell Adjei, Ontario’s first Poet Laureate and founder of RISE Edutainment;

• Andre De Grasse, first Canadian sprinter to win three medals in a single Olympiad;

• Natalie Spooner, Olympic gold and world championship winner as a member of the Canada women’s ice hockey team;

• Shawn Allen, Founder and President of Matrix Mortgage Global and the Matrix Cares Foundation;

• Glenn De Baeremaeker, former Scarborough Councilor and former President of Save The Rouge Valley System;

• Andrew Arifuzzaman, Administrative Director, University of Toronto Scarborough;

• Ronald Nelson, who built Canada’s first hip-hop studio in Scarborough and owns and operates Reggaemania.com;

• Gerry Dee, award-winning comedian, author and actor;

• Andrew Lentini, Director Emeritus of Wildlife and Science at the Toronto Zoo;

• and dr. Paul Caulford, family doctor and founder of the Canadian Center for Refugee and Immigrant Health Care.

To date, 55 Walk of Fame inductees and four others have been honored in the Rising Star category. The last seven initiates joined in 2018.

The Walk of Fame was established in 2006 and is now overseen by the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization.

Organizers said details of the induction ceremony, which will also be broadcast virtually, will be released shortly.

At the ceremony, Walk of Fame members will be honored with a star embedded in a courtyard on the ground floor of Scarborough town centre. Four Ascender Awards are given to youth who have distinguished themselves in the community.
