Rico Swavey, Da Grin, other celebrities who died in road accident

A number of Nigerian celebrities in both the music and film industries have been involved in car accidents at one point. While some survived unscathed, some were injured while others died during the incident.

Daily Trust lists five Nigerian stars whose lights went out as a result of car accidents.

Rico Swavey

The most recent of these unfortunate incidents is that of a former Big Brother Naija Season 3 roommate, Patrick Fakoya, popularly known as Rico Swavey.

His ex-roommate Alex Asogwa aka Alex Unusual shared the sad news of his death on her Twitter account on Tuesday.

According to Alex Unusual, the accident happened “hours ago,” adding that doctors were trying to revive Rico Swavey as she was leaving the hospital.

“Good morning lovelys. Please keep @iamricoswavey in your prayers today. He was involved in a horrible accident hours ago and the doctors are still trying to revive him as I was leaving the hospital. It’s really critical. i stay positive #PrayForRicoSwavey”

Colleagues also grabbed their handles to solicit financial donations for his health. But in the early hours of Tuesday, Tobi Bakare reported his death, which came as a severe shock to many.

“This is how I will always remember you, rest in peace my brother, thank you everyone for your prayers, donations and caring. God knows best.”

On April 14, 2010, one of Nigeria’s leading Yoruba rappers, Dagrin, was involved in a horrific car accident in front of Alakara Police Station, Mushin, Lagos.

His car – a Nissan Maxima – reportedly crashed into a stationary truck. Eight days after the accident, the rapper died at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital; (LUTH), Idi Araba.

The singer, known for his famous style of infusing English and Yoruba into his rap lyrics, has died at the age of 25.

Chris Jeyibo

Chris Jeyibo, owner of Koga Studios, was also involved in a car accident that resulted in his death.

The accident happened in the early hours of October 7, 2016 after his white Range Rover SUV rammed a parked truck along Magodo Road in Lagos.

Jeyibo was on his way home when the tragic incident happened. Koga Entertainment, which provides media and entertainment-related services, is the parent company of Koga Studios, KogaXtra.TV, Koga Lounge, Koga Hall and KICL Clothing.

CD John

Fast-rising Nigerian comedian Chijioke John, commonly known as CD John, was pronounced dead on March 24, 2011.

He died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos after a fatal car accident while returning from Harrysong’s debut album listening party in a convoy of three cars, including a car belonging to Gulder Ultimate Search season 7 winner Kunle Oluwaremi.

Ahmed Ishola Durojaiye

Yoruba actor Ahmed Ishola Durojaiye, commonly known as Alasari, died on March 20, 2011 at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Abeokuta.

His newly acquired Toyota SUV overturned en route to Lagos for a TV show in the Onipepeye area of ​​the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.

He was buried on March 15 in his town of Ita Elega in Abeokuta.
