Stephen A. Smith recently learned a valuable lesson: Don’t come for Rihanna unless she’s calling out to you. The ESPN analyst became the Navy’s No. 1 target after his appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show, where he made the bold statement, “There’s one thing she’s not, she’s not Beyoncé.”

While it’s true that Beyoncé and Rihanna are different people, fans took it as a diss. Smith may have been overcome by the onslaught of hate because the next day he shared a three-minute apology video in a van on Twitter.
“I’m going to own it because I get paid to make a living, so I have to be more careful,” he said at the beginning. While Rih Rih probably doesn’t care about his opinion, he made it clear how he feels about her with a direct message. “You’re a superstar, you’re sensational, you’re spectacular, you’re no joke, and you’re a worthy person to do the Super Bowl halftime show,” he said.
Explaining himself further, he said he only approached Bey because she performed twice at the Super Bowl, and he thought those were the most amazing performances he’d ever seen: “What I’m saying is everybody’s measuring up to that Must. “Michael Jackson might still be alive, and I’d say he has to measure up to that,” he said passionately in a car. “I didn’t mean it disrespectfully,” he said. “[Rihanna] You know you have to get it out,” Smith concluded his video.
After his apology, he went to Fox 29 to explain why he had apologized and said he has friends in Hollywood who said it was absorbed like pinning one black woman against another. “Which I didn’t do,” he said.
His car apology video has been viewed 1 million times on Twitter. There was a mix of responses like “The man talks s**t to Cowboys fans for a living but Rihanna fans primed him to go into witness protection lol” and “Don’t ever speak her as that again.” loser on.”
