Stars Behind Bars: Todd and Julie Chrisley’s fate in prison plus other celebrities who have served

Todd Chrisley’s new year got off to a rocky start. The reality TV star is due to report to prison on January 17 and is serving his time at Camp Pensacola Federal Penitentiary with minimum security, according to multiple reports.

Todd and his wife Julie Chrisley were sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison at a hearing in November after the two were convicted of federal tax evasion.

On an episode of the Chrisley Confessions podcast, Todd revealed that both he and Julie have appealed their tax fraud convictions but are “not authorized” to discuss further details.

“We can’t discuss the case because the appeal has been filed now, however they are doing it, I think it was filed yesterday or the day before,” Todd shared. “Our lawyers have noticed [sic] the courts that they have appealed against it.”

Todd was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Julie was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. It has also been plagued by wire fraud and obstruction of justice.

Celebrity attorney James Leonard Jr. noted that celebrities could sometimes be used as “examples” by the criminal justice system.

“I think the criminal justice system sometimes gives a very heavy hand when the offender is someone significant, whether it’s someone who appears on television, an athlete, or someone who is well known to the general public,” he said. “I often believe that, and it’s unfortunate, but often the criminal justice system tries to make an example of such individuals.”

Leonard Jr. also noted that time behind bars can be “extremely difficult” for celebrities.

“It’s extremely difficult because you’re separated from loved ones,” he told Fox News Digital. “You’re away from the comforts you’ve grown accustomed to, your lifestyle, and in that sense it’s very difficult.”

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah will learn of her fate later this week. Shah’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 6th.

Shah pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to wire fraud related to telemarketing. In exchange, count two, conspiracy to commit money laundering, was dropped.

“Jennifer Shah was a key participant in a nationwide program targeting elderly, vulnerable victims,” ​​US Attorney Damian Williams said in a press release.

“These victims were sold false promises of financial security, but instead Shah and her co-conspirators cheated them of their savings and left them nothing,” the statement continued. “This office seeks to eradicate these systems, whatever form they take.”

The celebrity chef has been accused of insider trading after she sold her shares in ImClone Systems just a day before the stock plummeted. She was accused of getting inside information about the company’s failure to obtain a Food and Drug Administration approval.

She was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction and two counts of lying to federal investigators.

After her prison time, Stewart also spent five months under house arrest and two years on probation.

Abby Lee Miller

Abby Lee Miller spent eight months in prison.

Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller spent eight months in prison in 2017 after being convicted of hiding part of her earnings.

Miller was charged with 20 counts of bankruptcy fraud, concealing assets and making false bankruptcy filings. The dance coach apparently hid nearly $775,000 of her earnings when she filed for bankruptcy.

Miller was transferred to a correctional facility in California after her conviction. Her sentence was reduced after the reality TV star was diagnosed with spinal cancer.

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. was sentenced to three years in prison but was released after a year.

Robert Downey Jr. was arrested for speeding in 1996. The actor was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol. Police also found heroin, cocaine, crack and a .357 Magnum in his vehicle.

Downey Jr. served time in prison before being released, but was later sentenced to federal prison for skipping parole.

The actor was serving a year of his three-year sentence.

Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman

Loughlin was serving her time in a Dublin, California jail after being convicted of paying $500,000 to get her two daughters admitted as rowing recruits at the University of Southern California.

The ‘Full House’ star’s husband was also convicted in the scandal, which has involved around 60 parents, college coaches and more.

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman has been jailed for 14 days for her role in the same scandal.
