Strictly stars and celebrities share messages of support for Nigel Harman

Strictly stars and celebrities have shared how “devastated” they are that Casualty star Nigel Harman had to pull out of the ` show after suffering an injury.

The 50-year-old actor and his professional partner Katya Jones had to leave the dance series hours before the quarter-finals due to a rib injury sustained by Harman, the ` said.

He and Jones would have performed a Charleston to Step In Time from Disney's Mary Poppins on Saturday night during musical week.

Former British number one tennis player Annabel Croft, who is still on the show and will dance a foxtrot with Johannes Radebe during the theme week, commented on Strictly's official Instagram announcement post saying: “Devastated for you Nigel ! I wish you a speedy recovery. You are an effortless and talented dancer xxx”.

With Harman now axed from the show, Croft will compete for Glitterball fame alongside actress Ellie Leach, theater and TV star Layton Williams and EastEnders star Bobby Brazier.

Williams, who works with pro Nikita Kuzmin, also sent a message of support, writing: “Sending so much love to both of them!”

Irish star Angela Scanlon, who became the ninth celebrity to be eliminated from the show last week, said: “So sorry to hear this @themeditatingactor & @katyajones you two are amazing xx.”

Strictly professional Kai Widdrington, who was eliminated during Blackpool week with his partner broadcaster Angela Rippon, added: “Sending you both all my love.”

TV presenter AJ Odudu, who had to withdraw from the 2021 Strictly series finale due to injury, commented with a sad face emoji.

Strictly professional Nadiya Bychkova shared crying and praying hands emojis, while presenter Denise Van Outen, who took part in Strictly in 2010, wrote: “Oh no!”

British snowboarder and Olympian Aimee Fuller said: “I'm sorry not to see you shine.”

Harman had previously said he was particularly looking forward to this week because he loved musicals, which was informed by his parents' appreciation for them.

He is the second celebrity to leave the show early after actress Amanda Abbington left for “personal reasons”.

In October, the Sherlock star missed a live Saturday show for “medical reasons” and a few days later it was announced she had withdrawn from the competition.
