For some devoted fans, the death of their favorite star can feel like the death of a family member — especially when their death is sudden. The “27 Club” is used to name the group of celebrities who died at the age of twenty-seven. Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jonathan Brandis and Anton Yelchin are all stars who never made it to 28. Other celebrities have died much earlier in their lives. R&B singer Aaliyah died at just 22 years old while flying back from filming her ‘Rock the Boat’ video in the Bahamas. The “Queen of Tejano Music” Selena Quintanilla Pérez tragically died after being shot by her fan club’s president, Yolanda Saldívar. She was only twenty-three.
Many celebrities died tragically in 2022. While some died of natural causes and old age, others died of disease, suicide, and even murder. Read on to remember which celebrities are sadly no longer with us after this year. May they all rest in peace.

8/8 Take off
The Migos takeoff was fatally shot in Houston, Texas in November 2022. He was only 28 years old. He and his uncle and bandmate Quavo were reportedly playing dice when a heated argument resulted in shots being fired. So far, two men have been charged in connection with his killing. The memorial service for the late rapper was held in Atlanta with several celebrities including Justin Bieber, Drake, and Quavo and Offset.
7/8 Bob Saget
Full House’s Bob Saget tragically passed away in January 2022 at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. He reportedly died from head trauma. Bob’s three daughters, wife Kelly Rizzo and his Full House co-stars were left heartbroken by his sudden death. Taking to Instagram, John Stamos wrote: “I’m not ready to accept that he’s gone. I won’t say goodbye yet. I picture him still out there, still on the streets.”
6/8 Olivia Newton-John
Grease’s Olivia Newton-John died in August 2022 at the age of 73. She famously battled breast cancer after being diagnosed in 1992. Olivia’s niece Tottie Goldsmith told A Current Affair that Olivia’s health had deteriorated in the five days leading up to her death due to additional “health complications”. Tottie also revealed that when she asked her aunt about the death, she said, “I’m not scared. I’ve done more in my life than I could ever have imagined.”

Tom Parker of The Wanted died of brain cancer in March 2022. He was just 33 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two children. He announced his diagnosis to his fans in October 2020. His four bandmates Max, Jay, Siva and Nathan were reportedly at Tom’s side when he died. Taking to the band’s official Instagram, they wrote: “He was our brother, words cannot express the loss and sadness we feel. Always and forever in our hearts.”
4/8 Naomi Judd
Singer Naomi Judd sadly passed away in April 2022 at the age of 76. Her death came just a day before she was scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Her actress daughter, Ashley Judd, shared that her mother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that she was the one who discovered it. The country singer has been open about her struggles with mental illness. Ashley shared that her mother’s death left her family “shattered.”
3/8 Ray Liotta
Goodfellas’ Ray Liotta died suddenly in his sleep in May 2022 while filming Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic. He was sixty-seven years old. He is survived by his daughter Karsen Liotta and fiancée Jacy Nittolo. His fiancee recently paid tribute to Ray on his 68th birthday. She wrote: “Today Ray would have turned 68. I believe he created much for everyone that will live on forever.”
2/8 Aaron Carter
Singer Aaron Carter died in his bathroom in November 2022. He was 34 years old. He is survived by an eleven-month-old son named Prince; the mother of his son Melanie Martin; his twin sister Angel Carter; his older brother, Nick Carter of Backstreet Boy; and his other siblings. Although an official cause of death has not yet been released, he was reportedly surrounded by cans of compressed air and pill bottles when he was found.
1/8 Stephen “tWitch” boss
Dancer and Ellen DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss committed suicide in a hotel room in December 2022. He was only forty years old. He is survived by his dancer Allison Holker Boss and their three children. After his tragic death, tributes poured in from his wife Ellen DeGeneres and other celebrities. Justin Timberlake wrote, “It is heartbreaking to hear that someone who brought so much joy into a room was hurt so badly behind closed doors.”
