John Goodman is an actor whose most famous roles really depend on the age group that answers the question. Among the oldest millennials, Generation X and baby boomers, Goodman is celebrated for films like The Big Lebowski and his incredibly long-running TV series Roseanne. But for younger generations, he’s Pacha on Emperor’s New Groove, he’s Vice Dean Laybourne on Community, and most importantly, he’s Sully on Monster’s Inc. If ever a career can be defined as possessing perseverance could, then that career would be Goodman’s.
Since he’s been around the block so many times (in good ways), his work has taken him to Saturday Night Live more than once. Goodman has hosted the variety show 13 times, with his first appearance back in 1989. He admitted to Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” (via YouTube) that he wanted to be on the “SNL” comedy Roster in 1980, but bombed the audition. Obviously he had his moment to shine and shine and shine.
