According to Massachusetts State Police, on April 15, a 51-year-old New Bedford woman was struck and killed after exiting a vehicle on the interstate in Westport. A 2010 Ford Fusion traveling east on Interstate 195 struck the woman, who was walking in the right lane, MSP said.
Changes are coming to the historic Capitol Theater as it evolves into a neighborhood center to meet the needs of diverse groups of community members. It will be restored and converted into six affordable rental apartments. It will also provide commercial space for small businesses as well as health and neighborhood services.

His brother, Perry Lee “Tiny” Tavares, posted a photo on his Facebook page April 17 as a tribute with the message: “Missing what we had.”
Just over a week ago, the New Bedford City Council met to discuss the dedication ceremony for Tavares Brothers Way, a street honoring the brothers and their achievements.

New Bedford Public Schools would like to share your thoughts on what to name the district's yet-to-be-built South End Elementary School.
The school is expected to be completed sometime in 2026 and will replace the aging James B. Congdon and John B. DeValles elementary schools in the South End. The planned location is the former Goodyear factory site at 651 Orchard St.

The Black Whale has officially opened its newly renovated outdoor patio.
The patio addition, which soft-opened on April 11, was a highly anticipated project for the restaurant as it aims to highlight the three pillars of its business: food, service and ambience.
The Black Whale has also equipped the terrace with multiple heating systems so that guests can dine comfortably almost all year round.
