The much-anticipated inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is set to kick off on Saturday with the first clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The series, which will run for the next 22 days, begins with a grand opening ceremony in Mumbai. According to the BCCI’s latest update, top Bollywood celebrities like actress Kriti Sanon, Kiara Advani and others will make some memorable performances in front of the crowd to mark the beginning of a historic series.
“Glitz and glamor to kick off the tournament will be added by Bollywood stars – Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon. To top it off, singer-songwriter ` Dhillon will perform some of his chartbuster musicals on stage, which is sure to wow audiences,” explained BCCI in a press release.
Apart from that, BCCI also shared that the first game was postponed due to the opening ceremony.
“The opening game has a delayed start and kicks off at 20:00 IST on Saturday. The draw will take place at 19:30 IST,” explained BCCI.
A total of 20 league games and two playoff games will be played, played over 23 days. For 87 women cricketers from 7 nations, this is the moment of reckoning.
The last match of the league phase will be played on March 21st at Brabourne Stadium between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals. The Eliminator will be played at DY Patil Stadium on March 24th. The 2023 Women’s Premier League final will be played at Brabourne Stadium on March 26.
