Analyst Predicts Bitcoin Consolidation, Targets $500,000 Long-Term Price Target

In the last day, Bitcoin (BTC) recorded slight gains of 0.7%, pushing its market price above the $42,000 mark. Investors in the world's leading cryptocurrency are likely to be encouraged by this latest price surge, following a 20% price drop that followed the much-anticipated approval of Bitcoin spot ETFs in early January.

Amid much speculation about BTC's next move, well-known crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe has released a forecast suggesting that Bitcoin's movement could be restricted in the coming months. However, he predicts a massive price increase in the coming years.

Bitcoin’s potential consolidation paves the way for the altcoin boom

In a post on January 27th According to the crypto analyst, Bitcoin is expected to trade between $37,000 and $48,000 in the next few months. If this prediction comes true, BTC could maintain its current uptrend and head towards the $48,000 zone before a major decline occurs.

#Bitcoin dominance peaked a few months before the Bitcoin halving.

History repeats itself.

It happened in 2016 and 2020 and it is likely that it will happen in 2024 too.

Interestingly, van de Poppe also stated that a possible Bitcoin consolidation would result in altcoins registering significant market gains. In a previous prediction, the crypto enthusiast expressed a similar belief, stating that BTC is gradually approaching its peak market dominance as the Bitcoin halving is just a few months away.

Based on historical data from 2016 and 2020, when BTC reaches its peak market dominance, the altcoins begin an uptrend and even surpass the market leader. Michaël van de Poppe predicts a similar event in the coming months, accompanied by a BTC consolidation phase.

The analyst remains optimistic about the long-term impact of ETFs on BTC

In the same post on X on January 27, de Poppe also commented on the possible impact of the Bitcoin spot ETF on the price of the asset. The analyst expressed high confidence in the newly launched Exchange Traded Products (ETP), stating that they have the potential to drive BTC to a market price of $300,000 to $500,000 in the coming years.

His prediction comes as the Bitcoin spot ETF market is currently seeing a decline in outflows after a rather worrisome start that saw over $4.786 billion flow out of the novel market within the first ten days of trading.

On January 26 (trade 11), the BTC spot ETF recorded a new minimum outflow of $255.1 million, according to data from BitMEX Research. At the time of writing, total net inflows in the ETF market are $759.4 million, while Bitcoin trading is at $42,088. If de Poppe's prediction comes true, investors in both markets could see massive gains in the coming years.
