Analysts warn that crypto vaporware projects like SUI, SEI, and APTOS are following a shady plan to fool traders

Recently, there has been heated debate in the crypto community about certain projects dubbed “vaporware.” Borrowed from the software industry, this term refers to products that are heavily marketed and hyped but don’t actually exist. This phenomenon is becoming more common as projects gain traction based on marketing, hype, and the reputation of their creators alone, rather than tangible products or services.
According to analyst Noodles, the trending hashtag #SeiScam is a testament to the growing skepticism of some members of the community. The mood is clear: concern is growing that certain projects, despite their big promises, have no real product. Instead, they only offer a token, with no real users to speak of. The only participants? Farmers, or those engaged in yield farming, a practice where individuals earn rewards by lending or staking their cryptocurrency holdings.
Projects like Sei, Sui, and Aptos came under scrutiny because they seemed to follow a similar pattern:
- Founders with strong ties to Silicon Valley, often viewed as a sign of legitimacy.
- Social media stats that seem impressive but are said to be inflated by farmers.
- Venture capitalists pumping up the value of the token upon listing, only to sell their holdings shortly thereafter.
For founders with significant influence or impressive background, being fascinated by the crypto world presents a crucial decision point. They can either invest time and resources to develop a real product and build a user base, or they can choose the seemingly easier route: create vaporware , pitch them and then promote their token.

While the latter option might offer short-term gains, it is a dangerous route. In order to maintain and justify the valuation of their token, founders have to keep releasing over-the-top announcements and more vaporware. This cycle continues even as traders lose interest and shift their focus to the next big thing in crypto.
The message from parts of the community is clear: While the world of cryptocurrencies offers tremendous opportunities, caution is advised. As the saying goes, “A deal with the devil is a deal for life.” Those who prioritize short-term gains over real value could find themselves in a never-ending dance, trying to keep up with the ever-changing movements of the crypto market.
