Bitcoin mining operations are becoming more sustainable as emissions intensity decreases. More miners are now using sustainable energy, and hardware efficiency has improved.
According to Woo Charts, Bitcoin mining emission intensity has dropped to its lowest level ever. Climate technology venture investor and activist Daniel Batten released the results on April 3.
According to the chart, BTC mining now generates less energy emissions compared to its energy consumption. Batten predicted that Bitcoin is on track to halve its emissions per KWh within three and a half years.
“No other industry is reducing emissions intensity so quickly,” he added.
In addition, there are two main reasons for the decrease in emission intensity. The majority of bitcoin miners are now using sustainable energy sources. Second, mining hardware has become much more efficient.

The researcher added a chart on the sustainability of bitcoin mining. It’s down a tiny fraction, but remains near its peak of 54%.
He said it stays high because a large percentage of the new hash rate entering the network is sustainably operated.
As a result, more than half of the grid is powered by clean energy.

BTC mining ecosystem outlook
According to Cambridge University, the BTC network currently consumes around 140 TWh per year. However, this is still less than the 206 TWh per year lost to transmission and distribution in the US.
The average network hashrate is currently 349 exahashes per second (EH/s). According to BitInfoCharts, this is not far from its all-time high of March 24 of 398 EH/s.
Additionally, the network difficulty, which measures competition between miners, is at an all-time high of 46.8T.
Finally, mining profitability remains low at just $0.078 per day per TH/s.
