Bitcoin: Will GBTC outflows continue to hurt BTC?

  • Due to GBTC’s behavior, BTC outflows continued to increase.
  • MVRV ratios remained high, indicating a high number of profitable addresses.

Bitcoin [BTC] The price has been observed to be stagnant at the $51,000 price level for quite some time. One of the reasons for the lack of movement in BTC price was the outflows from the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC).

Rising outflows

GBTC outflows have been hindering BTC’s growth for quite some time. A recent report showed an outflow of $199 million from GBTC and an inflow of $111 million from The Nine.

This resulted in a total daily net outflow of $88 million.

Additionally, there has been speculation that GBTC may sell some of Genesis/Gemini shares.

The reduced institutional interest, particularly evident by the significant outflow of $199 million from GBTC, may cast a shadow over Bitcoin prices.

Institutions, often considered influential market participants, play a crucial role in shaping overall market sentiment.

When a major investment vehicle like GBTC experiences significant outflows, it suggests that institutional investors may be reconsidering their exposure to Bitcoin.

Institutional interest is typically associated with confidence in the market, and a significant decline can be interpreted as a signal of caution or even a shift towards a more pessimistic outlook.

Institutions typically conduct thorough analysis and risk assessments before making investment decisions.

If their lower interest is due to concerns about future performance or the risks associated with Bitcoin, it could result in a broader shift in sentiment among market participants.

Not all major investors

However, not all hope is lost as some whales have shown interest in BTC.

What is notable is that the largest cohort of whales has accumulated, holding between 1,000 and 100,000 BTC. This accumulation pattern, a feature of bull markets, signaled a positive outlook among large holders.

Their buying activity started around $29,000 and intensified when the price surpassed $46,000.

At press time, BTC was trading at $51,847.69 and its price has fallen by 0.26% in the last 24 hours. BTC’s MVRV ratio remained high during this period.

This meant that most holders were profitable at the time of writing, despite the recent price fluctuations.
