COINCU on Binance Feed: Uniswap expects to charge liquidity pool fee for V2 and V3 to encourage token holders

Important points:

  • Uniswap proposes to introduce a log fee for all Uniswap v3 pools and enable the Uniswap v2 fee switch.

  • The aim of this proposal is to introduce a pool fee and a method for claiming and selling earned fees.

  • The UNI community may, in a later proposal, determine how the accumulated Treasury funds are managed, allocated, distributed or otherwise used.

Members of decentralized exchange (DEX) Uniswap are debating whether to introduce fees across several of their liquidity pools.

The goal of this proposal is to introduce a fee for Uniswap pools, create a way to claim earned fees and sell the earned fees on a UNI-designated asset without trust. Pool fees would allow the Uniswap protocol to replenish its coffers and reward holders of the native Uniswap (UNI) coin.

Uniswap’s move to further monetize its platform by charging fees on a significant portion of its v3 liquidity pools and all of its v2 pools could set a precedent for the larger DeFi ecosystem, where DEX has around 70% market share .

The UNI community may, in a later proposal, determine how the accumulated Treasury funds are managed, allocated, distributed or otherwise used.

According to DefiLlama stats, the total value of v2 is almost $1.17 billion. Meanwhile, the total value of v3, which is used on SushiSwap, Curve, Balance and PancakeSwap, among others, is around 2.86 billion US dollars.

This isn’t the first time members of the community have called for the activation of fee changes for Uniswap liquidity pools. This summer, a proposal to increase switching costs sparked debate in the DEX community.

Additionally, the v3 Polygon deployment will be the first deployment of the system. After a successful implementation, a proposal will be made for Ethereum deployment and other actions deemed necessary by the governance.

The DEX has maintained its position in the DeFi market. It is still the largest decentralized exchange in the world with a total value (TVL) of over $4 billion across all blockchains. For the second time this year, the platform’s trading volume has surpassed that of Coinbase.
