In today’s ever-evolving and fast-paced world, the Internet continues to be the primary catalyst for change. Web3 is emerging as its new growth engine, driving the shift towards a decentralized, transparent, and creator-led economy. The latest iteration of the Internet is expected to solve many of Web2’s fundamental problems, such as:
The year 2022 has laid a solid foundation for Web3, with discussion of important issues such as unfair censorship and data security gradually coming to life. This movement will ultimately empower users by giving back the power to control their own data. The digital economy without traditional gatekeepers and middlemen will be the next phase of the internet.
Seamless switching between Web2 and Web3
The Web3 landscape is expanding every year, with 2022 being another critical year in its build-up phase, with $30 billion in funds pouring into blockchain projects. With a focus on “developers and developers”, this year saw many advances in the underlying technology and Web3 infrastructure. New DeFi apps are designed to be user-friendly with excellent user interfaces. In 2023 and 2024 many such apps will revolutionize this space.
As the barriers and layers that prevent people from accessing Web3 applications are simplified, we will soon reach a point where users can access Web3 with the same superior user experience that is currently available in Web2. The dApps (decentralized apps) on Web3 are powered by blockchain technology, which allows them to run without the need for a central authority. This means users can interact without revealing their personal information, resulting in less censorship. Users switch seamlessly between Web2 and Web3 applications and may not even be aware that their application is based on the underlying blockchain technology. The experience will be seamless and frictionless, just like current fintech apps but with full privacy.
transparency and control
2022 essentially proved that transparency and control are the most critical aspects of this industry. The fallout of FTX, the second largest crypto exchange, and a few other incidents have made self-custody wallets more relevant than ever. However, the focus is now on making self-custody extremely user-friendly. The industry cannot continue to burden the user with the responsibility of managing a 12-24 word recovery phrase.
Many stakeholders are working aggressively to address this problem, and the solution lies in the development of cutting-edge technologies that eliminate seed phrases, layered security, assisted recovery, and more. The overall goal is that a user must “own their cryptos”. The previous narrative – Not Your Keys, Not Your Crypto will soon be replaced by Your Keys, Your Crypto. It’s important to solve the single point of failure where users lose all their credit if their keys are lost or compromised.
Increased use cases for increased penetration
While ease of use might be the highlight of 2023, users will gradually learn how Web3 will touch their daily lives, e.g. Web3 features (e.g. Twitter), digital identity, DAOs, dApps, decentralized cloud storage , decentralized browsers, etc. The Web3 will be based on Semantic Web concepts that will allow computers to better understand human language, leading to new possibilities for z -commerce and natural language processing, making interaction more intuitive, personalized and efficient. As more people explore DeFi opportunities, innovative financial products such as loans, staking, yield farming, swaps, and LPs will experience greater user penetration.
NFTs
A great example is the development of NFTs, where the move away from arts-based NFTs has already begun; It has to be seen how quickly NFTs could be converted into something more useful for users other than collectibles. This year, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk demonstrated how a digitized token can be used as a unique ticket to a live event when he issued tickets for his VeeCon crypto conference using utility NFTs. In 2023, we may see more use cases like memberships, digital goods, and intellectual property. The unique digital ownership, a feature of NFTs, is expanding in both the digital and physical realms, and tokenization of real-world assets is becoming more common.
To play
One possible way to get more users to benefit from decentralization is to integrate Web3 into the current apps. A hybrid of Web2 and Web3 will essentially dominate the Internet space in the coming years. Metaverse will be an additional element where games are more entertaining and offer monetary benefits to potential players. This can be a way to redistribute the wealth of gaming companies to the community, a Web3 promise that will make the internet fairer and more inclusive.
DEXs are becoming increasingly popular
The decentralized exchange (DEX) market has seen a resurgence in recent years as it offers higher levels of security and privacy compared to its centralized counterparts. In a DEX, trading is done on-chain, making it fully transparent with no dependencies on third parties to facilitate the completion of transactions. Additionally, DEXs are often built on specific blockchain protocols such as Ethereum. With recent instances of fraud and scams, users are demanding more transparency related to control over the care of their keys and data. As the market matures and more people become familiar with DEXs, the user experience is expected to improve, making DEXs more accessible to a wider audience.
Additionally, DEXs are often built on specific blockchain protocols such as Ethereum. As the blockchain ecosystem evolves, it is likely that DEXs will become more integrated with various other protocols, allowing for greater interoperability and increased liquidity.
Conclusion
Web3 will revolutionize the way the world does business. It will create new business models, new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and productivity. The technologies used in the Web3 i.e. Blockchain, Edge Computing, VR/AR/ are ubiquitous and not limited to one sector or industry or organization but enabling growth and development on a larger scale. Businesses can take advantage of Web3 through a better customer interface, interoperability, greater control over security and direct access to the end user without intermediaries. Web3 represents a tipping point to a newer and better next-generation Internet.
