Hi everyone, thanks for checking out this week’s ETC newsletter! This is the second newsletter of 2017 and ETC has got off to a fantastic start. On Friday, January 13, at block 3,000,000, the ETC community took a step into the future with the protocol upgrade/hard fork called “DieHard”. The “DieHard” upgrade included the following protocol improvements:

  • Bomb Delay Difficulty (ECIP-1010)
  • EXP original price (EIP-160)
  • Playback protection (EIP-155)

I can’t thank the ETC developer community enough for the hard work and countless hours they have put in to ensure that ETC is the most stable and secure platform available. I also want to thank the miners, exchanges, investors, traders, and other community members for committing to some of the best teamwork I’ve seen. The ETC community consists of countless countries, languages, cultures and ideas, but communication and teamwork managed to overcome all these obstacles. This teamwork has helped put the ETC project in a stronger position than I could have ever imagined six months ago. An article by Aaron Van Werden about the successful update was published in Bitcoin Magazine and on nasdaq.com.

The other stories featured in this newsletter are listed below:

@snaproll’s ETC monetary policy proposal is now officially available as ECIP-1017

“This ECIP proposes a solution to Ethereum’s classic monetary policy to permanently adjust the current implementation of the issuance plan of 14.0625 ETC per block. The proposed solution introduces a theoretical cap on the maximum absolute number of ETC and introduces a method of diminishing emission over time. Additionally, this ECIP describes the requirements associated with maintaining this issuance plan through a possible change in the network’s consensus algorithm from its current Ethash-based proof of work to a possible POS or POW/POS hybrid model.” The full post from Github and Reddit can be found at the links below.

Monetary policy discussions are still ongoing on many platforms. However, most of the conversation seems to be happening on the #monetary_policy Slack channel. Please join us on Slack using the link below.

Reddit user “bitp” alerted the community that the Wikipedia link “Ethereum Classic” currently redirects to “Ethereum”. ETC community member /u/FaceDeer was previously a Wikipedia editor and gave some insights into what should be done in the future. One of his recommendations is that we start the process by adding to the Ethereum Classic section currently on the Ethereum Wikipedia page. ETC can then get its own page after the volunteers have submitted enough information. Please see his full post in the Reddit thread linked below.
