What is EVMOS?
EVMOS is a blockchain network that implements the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) using the Cosmos SDK framework. The goal is full compatibility and scalability for decentralized applications. This is the basis for many decentralized apps. The network uses a framework called Cosmos SDK to make it compatible with other Cosmos-based chains connected to the IBC.
Story
The EVMOS blockchain is the result of a collaborative project founded by a diverse group of investors from the Cosmos ecosystem, including developers, validators and delegators. Its main goal is to maintain the reliability announced in April 2022 with the native $EVMOS token. At Genesis, 50% of all EVMOS tokens were airdropped to the community, 40% were allocated to a strategic fund, while the remaining 10% were sent to the community pool, a term referring to the DAO Treasury.
EVMOS technology
Evmos is a blockchain network that uses a unique validation method called Proof of StakPoS. It is a special engine called Tendermint that provides important security and validation functions for the network.
In order for a node on the Evmos network to validate transactions, it must first choose to support an Evmos deployment validator of its choice and earn a share of the rewards generated by validating transactions.
Thanks to the efforts of the 150 active validators, developers can focus on developing decentralized applications compatible with Ethereum.
The network is built using the Cosmos SDK, making it easy for developers to create new versions of their applications. This flexibility is in contrast to Ethereum, where a fork only occurs in extreme cases.
Cosmos Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC) enables easy communication. In addition, the ERC20 module enables the interoperability of the two networks. This makes it easier for Evmos to connect to the many popular decentralized apps built on Ethereum.
Let’s take a look at some of the technological foundations of the EVMOS chain:
Cosmos SDK
Located in the Cosmos ecosystem, the Cosmos SDK is a framework that enables the creation of application-specific blockchains. These can take the form of chains. Consequently, it is precisely this framework that provided the funds for the EVMOS network, which is a public PoS blockchain.
CosmWasm
The CosmWasm is a contract module that enables the assembly of decentralized apps on strong and reliable multi-chain smart contracts. It also supports the inclusion of a virtual machine in the CosmosSDK. In addition, it offers a safe and powerful runtime for smart contracts. It also enables powerful, well-known and trusted languages. Such smart contracts could then be deployed on numerous different blockchains and even interact across them via IBC.
Kosmos Interoperability
As a blockchain, it is a Cosmos-based blockchain that makes the chain interoperable for the user. At the same time, the fact that EVMOS supports the Cosmos SDK means that developers can easily port DApps based on other Cosmos-based chains to EVMOS.
Ethereum Interoperability
The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is a software environment implemented to run on any network node and ensures consistency of the state of the blockchain.
Since the EVMOS chain is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), this means that tokens can be easily transferred from the Cosmos side of the EVMOS chain to an EVM-compatible wallet such as Metamask. This can then be used to interact with EVM apps running on the EVMOS chain.
The EVMOS token
EVMOS serves as the native token for the EVMOS network. It is used in network fee payment, administration and staking, so blockchain security is not guaranteed and the exact qualifications required to receive an airdrop will depend on the awarding project.
According to data from CoinGecko, the EVMOS token has 418 million in circulation out of a total supply of 1 billion.
According to CoinMarketCap, the token has a current value of $0.41 as of February 2023, with a market cap of approximately $175 million, with a fully diluted market cap of over $418 million.

EVMOS ecosystem
There are around 20 to 30 apps in the EVMOS ecosystem, including some well-known ones like Diffusion.fi and EvmoSwap.
As for the entire DEX Diffusion.fi, which accounts for almost 56% of TVL’s share of EVMOS.
Diffusion.fi
The Diffusion Finance DEX is the largest DEX on EVMOS. Its primary function is therefore farming and providing liquidity to investors who would rather earn income from their coin pairs. This, in turn, offers investors a greater chance of earning rewards.
Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC)
The IBC is a protocol that helps one blockchain communicate with another. A key feature of IBC is that connected blockchains do not need to communicate directly with each other. You could do this with Bmart contracts. Therefore, the EVMOS network uses the IBC protocol to facilitate operability between blockchains, i.e. to provide them with the possibility for transfers between blockchains or to serve as a means of bridging tokens and data.
Wallets for EVMOS
Keplr wallet
Keplr is a browser extension based wallet and the wallet of choice for many in the Cosmos ecosystem. It can be viewed as a metamask equivalent for Cosmos, interacting not only with EVMOS but also with a variety of blockchains connected via the Cosmos IBC.
Keplr can be easily set up either by recovering a private key or by signing in using a Google account.
MathWallet
Another popular wallet is MathWallet. MathWallet is a mobile app-based wallet supporting DApps in the Cosmos ecosystem.
MathWallet offers mobile apps for iOS and Android and also has a browser extension option if you prefer to manage your positions on desktop.
MetaMask
Metamask needs no introduction: it is a popular browser extension and mobile wallet that allows users to interact with access-based decentralized applications (dApps) and use decentralized services.
Since EVMOS is compatible with EVM, you can also use MetaMask to interact with PS on the EVM side of EVMOS.
How to discontinue EVMOS
The EVMOS network uses the proof-of-stake consensus mechanism to keep the network alive, staking its tokens and benefiting tremendously from their ownership.
You can stake your EVMOS tokens on the EVMOS official website to earn returns.
After receiving EVMOS tokens, you can use them through one of the numerous validators and be rewarded by connecting your wallet and clicking on “delegate” the selected validator.
Yield farming on EVMOS
The ecosystem for EVMOS is still relatively young. However, you can run Yield Farm on EV Yield Farm on EVMOS. As of mid-February 2023, the top farms on Diffusion are paying out the following returns:
The process of trading and adding liquidity is mostly similar to Ethereum-based DEXes. So if you’re already familiar with yield farming in EVM-compatible ecosystems, you’ll feel right at home.
- In order to use EVMOS, you must first buy some $EVMOS tokens. You can do this with Osmosis DEX.
Go to Asset Pagplr wallet, trade to EVMOS, click “Withdraw to EVMOS network” and go back to Diffusion.
The reason you would want to use Osmosis for this trade is that Osmosis tends to offer better liquidity as of February 2023, resulting in better execution prices.
- Next, navigate to Evmos Mission Control and connect your Keplr wallet. If you navigate to the Assets tab and then Evmos, you will see the option to withdraw funds. Click on “Take Off” and then select “Take off from Osmo to Evmos”.
- Connect your MetaMaskos address.
You can then withdraw your EVMOS tokens directly from your Keplr wallet to your MetaMask’s “evmos” address.
- Go to diffuse
- Exchange half of your EVMOS tokens for the other coin you want to farm with. For example ATOM. Then go to the pool side.
- Select tokens for which you want to add liquidity. In this case we chose EVMOS and ATOM:
- Click Add Liquidity. Once the transaction is complete, go to the Farms tab and scroll down to the EVMOS/ATOM farm. Click through and you should now be able to deposit your LP tokens and start earning rewards!
Should You Use EVMOS?
The EVMOS network is well positioned as it is one of the first in the Cosmos ecosystem to promote blockchain interoperability. In addition, users could benefit significantly from the initiatives.
Since the project started late last year, there are also early investment incentives for Gy when it comes to yield farming. One would do well to be a pioneer in farming on EVMOS while yields are still relatively high compared to the rest of DeFi.
