Have Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptos stabilized despite rising tensions between Israel and Iran?

  • The fight between Israel and Iran takes a new turn after Iran fired dozens of drones in retaliation
  • The possible situation of an outbreak of war has caused the entire crypto market to suffer a huge downturn

The Middle East plunged into chaos after Iran officially launched an attack on Israel in the late hours of the morning local time. This has led to countries around the world remaining vigilant as the worsening situation could lead to significant disruption. And the impact of a possible war has had a huge impact on the crypto market.

The background that caused the Bitcoin crash

Tensions between the two countries increased after the Israeli IDF attacked the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus. The attack resulted in the death of a senior Iranian general – Brig. General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and five other members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In response, the Iranian regime announced that there would be a “punishment” for the attack. The regime also warned the United States of attack if it engaged in combat with Israel.

In this context, the Iranian government launched its attack against Israel. The country has deployed dozens of drones that are expected to reach Israel within hours. However, the actual target of the attack remains unclear. Drone activity has been spotted over Iraq, and while around 50 drones were initially reported, it is now speculated that over 500 drones have been spotted.

Furthermore, the attack came as a surprise as no one expected that the Iranian regime would launch an attack directly from its soil. This is a step for the first time in its history.

Bitcoin and crypto markets recover in harmony?

Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto market took the plunge immediately after reports of the Iranian attack first surfaced. According to TradingView, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) fell to a low of $61,308 but quickly recovered and traded just above that level. According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin was trading at $62,388 at press time and its loss over the past day was over 7 percent.

Notably, the broader crypto market has fared much worse than the coin, with several cryptocurrencies seeing a downtrend of over 15 percent in the past day. Among the top 20 cryptocurrencies, Polygon (MATIC), Shiba Inu (SHIB), Avalanche (AVAX) and Dogecoin (DOGE) saw the most success. The coin had recorded a loss of over 18 percent or more in the past day.

Currently, the market appears to have stabilized as there has been no major up or down trend in the last hour. However, the possibility of a price recovery currently seems uncertain as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.

Furthermore, while the greed for crypto is high, it has declined today and has reached its lowest point last month. According to CMC, Bitcoin options volatility has increased sharply today. The volatility index shot from around 69 to almost 78.9.

While the price has fallen, several crypto internet users have expressed that a recovery is bound to happen and there could be higher profits. Tony Gallippi – the co-founder of BitPay said on X:

Other crypto influencers and founders were also optimistic about the end result of the events. This is especially true due to the upcoming Bitcoin halving that will take place in the next few days. And based on previous trends, Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto market have seen a massive bull run.
