A webinar entitled “Digital Transformation in Agribusiness Towards High-Tech and Smart Farming” was held in Thanh Hoa on October 6 as part of a series of activities to mark the National Digital Transformation Day 2022.
Mr. Hoang Viet Chon, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), stated during the webinar, “Agriculture plays a crucial role in Vietnam’s economy and remains a key sector in ensuring national food security. Digital transformation is an inevitable trend and key to unlocking sustainable growth in the context of international integration, climate change, disease and the fourth industrial revolution
Thanh Hoa DARD viewed the webinar as an opportunity for the agricultural industry to seek innovative solutions to the province’s digital transformation challenges.
Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, stated, “The digital transformation in the agricultural sector is based on three main pillars: digital management at state administrative agencies responsible for agriculture; digital agriculture; digital landscape; and digital farmer.
Vietnam’s agriculture needs to undergo a full digital transformation to adapt to the 4.0 technological revolution.
The Animal Production Department has been entrusted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide the database system for the management of animal feed production plants and livestock farms to meet the urgent needs of production practice and development orientation outlined in the Livestock Industry Development Strategy by 2030 with a Vision to 2045.
Referring specifically to livestock production, Chinh stated, “Databases for forage and animal husbandry facilities would support capacity building of state administrative agencies, change awareness and actions of individuals, companies and administrative officials at the local level to improve yield, acreage, quality and output of the products; facilitating a smooth, up-to-date and integrated two-way exchange of information between the public and agricultural administrations; and facilitating the administrative procedure for the smooth registration of animal production.”

A successful digital transformation therefore requires a high degree of unifying determination of the political system. While resources to invest in infrastructure for digital transformation are limited, social resources must be mobilized to serve as a driving force for digital transformation.
To add value to sustainable agricultural goods, federal and state governments must also take action to support communities in digital transformation.
