Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z create new “Bitcoin Academy” to offer BTC education to public housing residents in Brooklyn
Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z are funding a new “Bitcoin Academy” to offer free blockchain education to residents of the public housing project where Jay-Z grew up.
Residents of Marcy Houses in Brooklyn will have exclusive access to the Bitcoin Academy, although the project plans to expand the program to other neighborhoods in the future, according to the project’s website.
The free courses will be led by Lamar Wilson, founder of social group Black Bitcoin Billionaire, and Najah Roberts, founder of Crypto Blockchain Plug, a crypto education company.
Says Jay Z
“Bitcoin Academy starting in Marcy, a place that has taught me so much, hopefully is the first of many. The simple goal is to provide people with tools to build independence for themselves and then for the community around them.
Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, notes that Bitcoin is becoming a “crucial tool” for people in Africa and Latin America.
“We believe the same potential exists in communities across the United States. Our goal is to prove that providing people with powerful tools allows them to build greater independence.
Education is the starting point. This isn’t just about bitcoin…it’s about long-term thinking, local economies, and self-belief. Classes are free for all Marcy residents, including children. And to make it even easier, we provide devices and data plans for everyone who needs them.”
Classes will take place from June 22nd to September 7th.
