Mara is founding an academy to advance digital finance literacy and create a future talent pipeline in Africa

Mara, the pan-African digital finance ecosystem, today launched Mara Academy, a new, free, pioneering online education platform dedicated to driving blockchain and digital finance capacity building in Africa, building a community of wealth creators, helping them manage their Fortune will help and create a future African talent pipeline.

Mara’s mission of enabling people to reach their highest potential through the academy will be achieved through a range of pathways and an innovative curriculum model with selected partners who will offer Africans – from highly skilled, multidisciplinary technologists to non-traditional learners – equal access to upskilling, education and a clear path to global opportunity.

Designed and built with Africa-centric course content, the academy offers lifetime access to all course resources including instructors, videos, practice tests and final projects. While the Mara Academy will be open to everyone, it is being built to educate more Africans and encourage the adoption of digital finance and blockchain technology.

Data from Gemini’s 2022 Global State of Crypto report shows that education is the top global barrier to digital asset ownership. The rapid rise and increasing use of digital assets across Africa and beyond requires empowering Africans with the right skills and tools.

Over 40% of Africans have not bought any digital assets due to a lack of trust, fears about price volatility or because they do not understand how to buy and hold these digital assets. Due to a lack of education, digital asset scammers have targeted Africans with Ponzi schemes that promise to generate lucrative and above-market returns on staking tokens and yield farming – all with confidence and interest in wider digital adoption undermine finances. The Academy’s mission is to bridge this gap and to serve as a central resource hub to gain a holistic understanding of Financial Literacy, Blockchain, NFT, Web3, Wealth Creation and Management.

The Academy’s program consists of three content components: coursework focused on blockchain, developers and digital finance literacy to help learners enjoy self-paced learning and gain a better understanding of blockchain savings and investments; and gain digital financial literacy. Learners are also trained in budgeting, setting financial goals, investing and wealth management using digital tools.

The Academy will offer simplified free blockchain and financial literacy courses aimed at beginner, intermediate and advanced non-blockchain natives and blockchain natives. Learners who complete the courses receive gold-standard certificates that can be shared with potential employers and professional networks to gain access to well-paying career opportunities. Through use cases and applications in Africa, we will also provide our blockchain community with industry best practices to help them create wealth and strategies to protect digital assets from hacking.

The educational content is provided through the online Academy portal, where users can take any course of their choice and earn a certificate; the Mara Wallet, available now to download from the Google Play and Apple App Stores; partnerships with schools and institutions; Hackathons, boot camps, workshops, master classes; as well as Mara ambassadors encouraging Africans to seek blockchain knowledge.
