Change in leadership at OpenAI

Previously, OpenAI announced a leadership transition on November 18, 2023, with Mira Murati appointed interim CEO to lead the company and Sam Altman leaving the company. The company had said that Sam Altman’s departure from OpenAI was the result of a thorough review process by the board.

The Board found that Altman’s communications lacked consistent candor, which impaired the Board’s ability to carry out its responsibilities. As a result, the board lost confidence in Altman’s ability to effectively lead OpenAI, leading to his departure from the organization.

Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that hundreds of OpenAI employees were threatening to quit unless Sam Altman was reinstated as CEO. Employees demanded the return of Altman and OpenAI President Greg Brockman, who then also left.

The employees who threatened to quit also said they would join the newly announced Microsoft subsidiary led by Altman and Brockman and said they had received assurances from Microsoft that there would be positions for all OpenAI employees. employees.

Microsoft CEO and Sam Altman

Sam had plans to join Microsoft and lead its AI mission after leaving OpenAI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed this in an X post, stating that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman would be leading a new advanced AI research team at Microsoft.

With that in mind, however, Altman was still considering a return to OpenAI if the board resigned due to the employee revolt. According to recent reports, Sam Altman has been reinstated as CEO of OpenAI just five days after he was fired following negotiations between OpenAI’s board of directors, Altman, and prominent investor Bill Gates.
